Rhoades has also constructed a frontcourt featuring incoming junior Zach Hicks (Temple), senior Puff Johnson (North Carolina) and fifth-year senior Leo O'Boyle (Lafayette), in addition to returning sophomore Demetrius Lilley. Gudmundsson will join a Penn State backcourt that features returning sophomores Jameel Brown and Kanye Clary, and incoming senior Ace Baldwin Jr. Now, they’re up to 11, which means there are two scholarships remaining for this season. At one point this spring, the Nittany Lions had just two scholarship players on the roster.
Gudmundsson's commitment is another step toward filling out Rhoades’ first Penn State roster. He also added a 19-point performance in the playoffs. He scored in double figures nine times in 25 games, with a season high of 20 points. Gudmundsson shot 34.4% from the field and 28.4% from three-point range for Grindavik last season. This past season, he averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks per game in 24.6 minutes per game, according to EuroBasket. He’s spent the past four seasons playing for Grindavik in the Iceland-Subway League. Gudmundsson is listed at 6-foot-5 and 180 pounds.
